Radio is most probably at the top of the most popular free services. You have the luxury to get entertained everywhere with it. At home, at work, in the bus, in the automobile, while you walk, etc. With the term "radio" People usually mean a sound service that they can get & is usually free, without any subscription or pricey equipment. With radio You can listen free music. You can listen to it while working or you can relax & enjoy listening to your favorite band. There's lots of ways to get such free sound service. Each has some advantages & disadvantages but the fact is that the elderly FM radio as they know it is far the most widely used broadcasting service

You can listen to radio stations that are broadcasting over web. This service is still free, but you require access to the net as well as a computer. There's also some devices (network players) that support web broadcasting, but you still require access to the net, either wireless (WiFi) or over local network. Therefore the most popular platform for FM radio is terrestrial broadcasting while some countries are still using old AM Broadcasting technique, most probably for international broadcasting. Because of lots of advantages of terrestrial broadcasting there are lots of stations interested in using this media. Of work, the radio-frequency spectrum is a limited resource & only a small fraction of the whole spectrum is apportioned to broadcasting. Therefore, they can fit only a limited number of stations in to this band.

But despite all the disadvantages and limitations the FM radio will be used for plenty of years to come. Interestingly, there is still no comparable digital broadcasting method that could replace the elderly analog radio.
